5 Small Business Tips for the New Year

Welcome to 2026. We’ve got five tips to help you start the year right for your business.

5 Tips for the New Year

Start the year with confidence by stepping up your game, from finances to organization. Here are five tips to help you focus your effort in 2026:

1. Communication

It’s easy for your communication to get outdated and stale. The new year is an ideal time to review and update things:

  • Review your website. Actually read the copy. Make sure everything is current.

  • Refresh your social media channels with a new cover picture. If you haven’t posted in a while, now’s the time.

  • Check your phone message and email auto-responses. Be sure your messaging is current and accurate.

2. Finances

Close the books on 2025 and get your numbers straight for tax season. If your processes aren’t the best (no shame), now’s a great time to implement new systems. Start fresh in the new year.

3. Outreach

It’s always important to stay connected with your customers, but sometimes you’re just too busy with the day-to-day. If it’s been a while since you’ve talked to clients, reach out to your whole list. If you send a holiday card, follow up with a new year check in. If you don’t send a holiday card, use it as an excuse to reach out in the new year.

4. Organization

Slow winter days are a good time to get reorganized. Start the year right with a neat space. Clean your desk (virtual and physical), spruce your space, and make everything more welcoming and inviting. Clean doesn’t necessarily mean productive, but more organized is more efficient.

5. Team Building

Take some time with your team. You did a team get together at the end of the year right? If not, do one now to set the tone for the new year. Make sure you check in with your employees. Make sure they know they’re appreciated and you’re open to hearing from them. Keep those lines of communication open.

A solopreneur? Treat yourself to a long lunch and think about what’s next. Reflect on what you’ve accomplished and what’s in store for the new year.
